Inktober 15-10-11: The Empress

"What use do I have for an asset that can't function in the field? Fix it. Or what use do I have for you?"


Super sketchy background. This pic was meant to be done yesterday but I failed at even half-Inktober and missed a deadline. I'll try to get one done tomorrow to get back on track.

Trying to do a middle-aged character is hard. Even the smallest lines on the face make her look like a grandmother, but no lines and she looks too young.

I had too much fun hunting through fashion lines and building a folder of possible outfit for my two middle-aged female characters. I'll have a great time picking out their outfits in the future. Might aim for the second of my older ladies tomorrow, but will see how the sketch process goes - if it's taking too long, might switch to a headshot to catch up the missed day.

Added some texture but forgot to shade the bottom half of the cape. Without some sort of shading it looked more like part of the dress than a double-layer cape, so threw a quick cg layer on there. Top half is meant to be kind of sable / furred.

Originally I was going to give her longer hair than this, but when sketching it came out like this and I went with it. I think she'd appreciate hair that she doesn't have to waste too much time on.


Materials: mechanical pencil; multiliner pens; cg wash layer (15%).
